Medical students have visited the USA this summer and spent their time as the observers at the Department of Bariatric Surgery in Geauga Medical Center which is a part of the University Hospital program. They had the pleasure to monitor work of such a great doctor and UJK lecturer - Prof. Tomasz Rogula MD, PhD, following patients’ progress, starting from their admission up to discharge and follow-up. Assisting and observing surgical procedures conducted by eminent physicians has developed students’ knowledge and has been a meaningful experience. The main goal of the visit was to become familiar with the American health care system and process of training future physicians. Students participated in numerous activities and meetings including IQ and IQ+ sessions, White Coat Ceremony and Student Clinician’s Ceremony held at Case Western Reserve University. They have been introduced to the Student Body President and have discussed the beginning of the potential collaboration of both institutions. They explored the clinical and academic side by attending Mortality and Morbidity conferences and presented their initial research projects in front of experienced clinicians. Furthermore, the additional opportunity to visit Cleveland Clinic has allowed them to meet the Dean, Dr James Young, board-certified surgeons and enabled them to see a large number of science laboratories where residents can train. Below some photographs from the visit.
